Carol Pilcher

What do you hope to offer as a member of the National Executive / Branch Chairperson?

I would like to think that my life experiences, travel and working in the education sector for over 40 years ( 20 of them in leadership roles) has ensured I have the qualities and skills that I can use in the many different areas of this professional organisation. I am a team player and like to work in a collegial manner. The CANZ’s Vision, Purpose and Code of Ethics is something that resonates with me and I believe we need to walk the talk in order to uphold and demonstrate these as celebrants. I would like to support and encourage all celebrants to belong to this organisation so that support is available for them to a deliver high quality service and ceremony.

Tell us about your celebrant work?

What a great privilege and experience it is to be part of couple’s lives on their special day.

I am approaching 10 years as a marriage celebrant and I enjoy meeting the couples, working with them to develop a ceremony that is personal, what they want and one they won’t forget (even after 50 years marriage!). Over the years I have participated in a wide variety of different wedding ceremonies, symbols, venues – inside and out and the weather!!

I am also a Registry celebrant and have developed a little courtyard at my place where I can hold ceremonies for couples.

At present I have nearly completed my Funeral Celebrant training and I am looking forward to working with families, to create and conduct a professional funeral ceremony that honours and celebrates the life of a loved one.

Why did you become a celebrant?

Living and working in small rural towns I was involved in many aspects of community, and as I am a Justice of the Peace many people starting asking me to marry them thinking that is what JP’s do…….so….that started me on my journey as a marriage celebrant, which I love.

Tell us a little about yourself

After living in the Wairarapa for over 40 years I have recently moved to the Kapiti Coast. I enjoy time walking on the beach and visiting the many different cafes in the area. As an active person I like to keep myself busy.

I have 4 married adult children and 9 grandchildren and try to spend as much time with them as possible. They all live within a two hour car ride.

I am an active JP and am a Victim Support volunteer.
